VISIT TO THE GALTON AND WELLCOME COLLECTIONS (29/02/08)

The first event in the Society's calendar for 2008 was a two-part visit. First, we all got to know a 'hidden' collection at University College London: the scientific instruments, papers and personal memorabilia of Sir Francis Galton FRS (1822-1911), statistician, anthropogenist and much more. After that, we visited the recently opened Wellcome Collection, a major new public venue from the Wellcome Trust, created under the will of the pharmacist, entrepreneur, philanthropist and collector, Sir Henry Wellcome (1853-1936).
