Twentieth Annual Invitation Lecture

We are very pleased to announce that the Society's twentieth medal lecture will be delivered by Willem Hackmann, who will speak on "Spectacular Science through the Magic Lantern" on November 23rd, 6pm, at the Society of Antiquaries, London.

Willem D. Hackmann, M.A., D.Phil, FSA, has been editor of the Society's Bulletin since September 1994. He has worked in the Museum of the History of Science in Oxford for more than thirty years and has written, lectured and taught on many aspects of the history of science, but in particular in recent years on the visual culture of science, and this year’s Anniversary Lecture will deal with aspects of this topic.

This event is once again being held at the Society of Antiquaries of London, Burlington House, Picadilly, London, W1J 0BE. The lecture is free and open to the general public, with no booking required, doors open 5.30pm, with the lecture to begin at 6pm. The lecture will be followed by a bookable buffet reception from 7pm to 8.45pm at the cost of £30 per person.
