'Jesse Ramsden: London's leading scientific instrument maker - Why?'
An illustrated talk by Dr Anita McConnell (09/02/07)

The first event in the Society's calendar for 2007 was Dr Anita McConnell's illustrated talk Jesse Ramden: London's Leading Scientific Instrument Maker - Why? Anita delivered the Society's Medal Lecture in 2004 on Instrument makers in the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography, and her monograph on Ramsden dealt with one of the greatest of these makers. We wee delighted that Anita offered to give this 'preview' talk to our Society.

The talk was organised together with the Centre for Metropolitan History at the Institute of Historical Research, part of the University of London's School of Advanced Study.

The talk was held in the Wolfson and Pollard Rooms at the Institute, which is situated in the North Block of Senate House, the commanding 1930s building just north of the British Museum

This was followed later in the day by a private exhibition of Treasures from the Astronomy Collection at the Science Museum.
